| I finely went out and spent the extra money and bought the "official" cable from Nintendo, in hopes of improving the picture on the games and movies from Netflix. It works but I do not think the 480p picture is what I would call High Definition. If I had it to do over again, I would just keep the cables that came with the Wii and my money. |
Worth the Extra Cost Over Third-Party!

I initially bought a third-party component cable for my Wii and the results were horrendous. It literally looked worse than the standard composite cable that comes stock. I don't have a high definition TV, but my Sony CRT TV does have component hook-ups. This official Nintendo cable made a pretty big difference and is worlds better than the third-party cable that I initially got for cheap. Lines are more crisp, colors are more vivid, and you don't get the nasty "dot-crawl" that you get with the standard composite cables.
Overall, I'd say it's definitely worth the extra money, because a third-party product may or may not work like it's advertised to. Buy this product with confidence and I would recommend getting it through Amazon, because it's cheaper here than the local big-box store where I purchased mine. |
You need this to get the 480p signal

| To get the best picture quality from the Nintendo Wii, you need to get the component cable adapter. The composite cable that comes with the Wii will only provide a 480i signal. With the component cable, you get the full 480p, which is the best that you can get with the Wii. |
Don't take a chance on third-party garbage

I shudder to think of how much money I've spent on video games and accessories over the years. One rule I've had since I got my first system (an NES when I was 4 years old) is that when proprietary technology is involved I ALWAYS buy first-party, even though you're paying a premium. You and your friend could buy seemingly-identical third-party accessories, but his could be great and yours could be utter garbage. The range of quality of third-party products is so broad that every time you get one it's a complete crapshoot - maybe you luck out and it works fine, maybe it doesn't. And if it doesn't, good luck getting your money back. Unless I need something that's not made first-party (a turbo controller, for example) or something non-proprietary (a standard HDMI cable), I will always buy first-party.
That's why I got these. Yeah, they're a bit pricey, which is why I gave it four stars instead of five. It would be nice if the Gamecube component cables were compatible with the Wii (they're not), or if they were bundled with the system (like the 360). Better yet, include an HDMI option with the system. But if you want 480p from the Wii get these, the official Nintendo product - otherwise, you may be sorry later. |

| These cables improved somewhat the image quality from my Wii, not much, because from 480i to 480p the difference is little, but is good to know that you are getting the best images possible by some original cables, although a little bit expensive, but is just good to have them, like I said before. |
