I bought these pads at a local gaming store around six months ago, and they have been installed on my Rock Band 2 drum kit ever since. Drumming is somewhat quieter, but don't expect miracles. Beating the snot out of anything the way you do in this game is going to produce at least some racket. The best reason I found to use this product, however, is more as a protective cover for the drum pads. I no longer feel like I'm going to break the drums simply by using them as they were intended. I feel using these pads would add tremendously to the life of the equipment. I also think that the drums look and feel much better with them installed. The rubbery coating on the drums seemed to collect lint and fuzz in my house, like those silicone phone covers do in a jean pocket. These are slick and smooth and feature the Rock Band logo.

Take heed, though, in installing these things. As many other reviewers have pointed out, there are no installation instructions, and they aren't as easy a fit as you would think. To me, the "correct" way to install them shouldn't require any trimming. Therefore, I personally removed the colored rings around each drum in the same way a prior reviewer detailed. The pads then fit like a charm. Be extremely careful in doing this, however, as there are some sensitive parts in there and you really don't want to break your drum kit.

Other than the less-than-intuitive installation, I find these pads very convenient and nice looking. I would recommend them to anyone, as long as you are careful when putting them on.
take 'em or leave 'em

I was looking for these to decrease the noise of hitting the drum pads. I'd say they make the sound more of a "thump" and less of a sharp "click", but the total volume is probably only decreased maybe 25% - which is way less than I was expecting.
install busted my drums for nothing. read why as a warning

OK, first off, this item comes with ZERO instructions. Nothing. No hint at how to use them. Thankfully, there's Amazon reviews, where I read several step by step instructions.

Yes, popping the drum pads off takes more force than is comfortable, but is definitely doable. BUT... the thick rubber stoppers that attach the drum pads to the base are themselves attached to the drum pads with -- get this -- glue. Popping the pads off sometimes made the stoppers simply pop out of their holes. That's good.

Other times, the stoppers stayed in the holes and separated where they were glued to the pad. That's bad.

On one drum pad, all 4 of the stoppers separated from the pad. Now it's impossible to get the pad to fit correctly back on the drum base. It kinda sits there, but... just kinda.

As if that's not bad enough, the real "tragedy" is that after all this, the noise is maybe 10% quieter. Slight difference, not enough for me to be able to use the drums when my family is asleep, though. As in, not even close. Still wakes my wife and son up.

So I wrecked my drum heads for nothing.

Gonna try to return the item, but not looking forward to the gluey residue that must be left on top of the drums now, Eegads. Worst purchase I've made in quite a while. Not just for the $20, but for ruining my brand new drum kit.
Not what I had hoped for

Previous reviews have pretty well covered this, but as silencers go, these are next to useless. They don't fit snugly on the drums, so you need to hit harder to compensate. The solution is to trim the silencers for a better fit, but that really shouldn't be the buyer's responsibility. They are effective at protecting the drum surfaces though, which is why I'm giving them a 3-star rating.

I paid retail for this set and regret it. It might be worthwhile if you find them at a discount and have the patience to cut them down to size, but otherwise they're just not worth it.
Perfect

Reviewer: Roman Kamas,
I have bought it for RB2 and really it works.
The taps are more silenced and druming is more user friendly.
